Today, Netflix announced a whopper of a new series, based on one of the most despicable villains in all of contemporary cinema. "Ratched," named for the evil nurse in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, will star Sarah Paulson in the title role. The series will touch on events leading up to those in the Jack Nicholson classic, based on the book by Ken Kesey, with rumors of later seasons exploring some of the story of Cuckoo’s Nest.
Joining Paulson on the cast of "Ratched" will be Cynthia Nixon, Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Finn Wittrock, Charlie Carver, Alice Englert, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
This news comes after yesterday’s Emmy nomination announcements, in which Netflix scored an unprecedented 160 total nominations, smashing the record of 137 set by HBO. Paulson is no stranger to the statues, having scored seven Emmy nominations across "American Horror Story," "American Crime Story," and "Game Change." In 2016, she scored nominations for both "AHS" and "ACS," in the Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress categories respectively.
The series is created by Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story," and Evan Romansky. Murphy executive produced alongside Ian Brennan, Sarah Paulson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Aleen Keshishian, Jacob Epstein, Jennifer Salt, Margaret Riley, Michael Douglas, Robert Mitas and Tim Minear.
"Ratched" is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, September 18th. Check out some first-look images below.
