The folks over at Scream Factory dropped a surprise Blu-ray announcement this week with the hallucinogenic, genre-bending cult favorite, The Ninth Configuration, releasing in just a few short days, on May 31st!
Written and directed by William Peter Blatty, and based on his novel of the same name (originally, Twinkle, Twinkle "Killer" Kane!), this film is considered by Blatty himself to be the true sequel to his 1973 masterpiece, The Exorcist.
With an absolutely stacked cast (Stacy Keach, Jason Miller, Scott Wilson, Ed Flanders, Neville Brand, Moses Gunn, Joe Spinell, Robert Loggia, Richard Lynch, and Tom Atkins), the film is a mix of dark comedy and unsettling human tragedy - one that has to be seen to be believed.
"In the final days of the Vietnam War, a remote castle in the Pacific Northwest serves as a mental hospital for troubled soldiers scarred by their experiences. Isolated and all but forgotten, the inmates are running the asylum ... until Colonel Kane (Keach) arrives to take over their treatment. Taking a special interest in one of his new patients – former astronaut Billy Cutshaw (Wilson) who inexplicably aborted his mission to the Moon during its final countdown – Kane seeks answers to the mysteries of the breakdown. But as his time in the castle goes on, the riddles in Kane's own mind reveal themselves in shocking and violent ways."
If you're not convinced, consider this: The Ninth Configuration is believed to be the first appearance of "The Howie Scream." Now you've gotta see it!
