Serj Tankian Releases Title Track From 'Elasticity,' Music Once Intended for System of a Dowm

Be honest, who else didn’t think to put “System of a Down reforms and makes new music” on their 2020 bingo card? Cuz I sure as hell didn’t.

Not only do we have two new tracks from the iconic alt-metal band, but singer Serj Tankian has a new documentary coming later this month in Truth to Power. Around the time of the latter getting a release date, we learned of a new EP from Tankian, said to be music that was written and intended for System, and now we have the first glimpse of that EP, titled Elasticity.

The title track of the EP is reminiscent in delivery to System’s debut album, with nonsense lyrics in the verses that come around into some creative choruses. The guitar work isn’t as low-end heavy as System’s typical fare, but it’s very much a rock-forward track, even with the greater electronic presence than even Serj’s solo work typically has. As expected, Tankian’s vocals are all over the place, showcasing why he still has one of the best and most recognizable voices in hard rock, bar none.

Elasticity will be released through Alchemy Recordings, a subsidiary of BMG, on March 19th, with the vinyl release coming April 30th. Digital pre-orders can be found here, while physical pre-orders including merch can be found here.
