It appears as though film delays aren’t the only thing leftover from the hell year that was. Sony Pictures has announced the delay of the upcoming Resident Evil film, subtitled “Welcome to Raccoon City,” pushing the film back some two and a half months. Originally, it was going to be out on September 3rd, 2021, and now it will hit theaters on November 24th, 2021, the day before Thanksgiving in the United States.
In a report from Variety, it’s said that the Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to release on September 3rd, and as the U.S. box office has been slow to pick up, Sony has opted to space out their releases to avoid potential competition, especially a blockbuster superhero film.
For those not up to speed just yet, here is the synopsis for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City:
In the once booming home of the pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.
Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) directs, and stars Robbie Amell and Kaya Scoledario as Chris and Claire Redfield.
