Steam Game Festival Features A Host of Horror Titles - All With Demos Available

Today marked the beginning of the Steam Game Festival, a weeklong event on the PC gaming platform with hundreds of participating titles. All games featured in this season’s festival have demos available to play, and as far as horror gaming goes, there are plenty of options for the macabre-minded gamer. By no means is this an exhaustive list, but here are just a few of the games featured in this Winter 2021 installment.

Slender Threads is a point and click adventure/thriller, in which writer Harvey arrives in the sleepy town of Villa Ventana (no relation to the industrial band). He goes for inspiration, but stays to uncover the secrets behind the village, as well as the ominous dreams he has in his first few nights there. This will release sometime this year.

Lamentum is a pixel art horror set in 19th century New England. As Victor, players will search for the cure to a rare disease, solving puzzles and facing horrific creatures along the way. Don’t mistake 2D graphics for playing it safe, as judging by the reveal trailer below, Lamentum doesn’t skimp on the gore. This game from Obscure Visions will release sometime this year.

Dap comes in as a top-down action-adventure game, in which the player interacts with, and tries to collect, small creatures known as Daps. These Daps will help you navigate and survive in the world plagued by an alien invasion. This game is visually striking, full of beauty and brutality, and while it looks pretty, things can get ugly in a heartbeat. No release date has been confirmed for this game at this time.

Little Nightmares II is the sequel to the 2017 puzzle-platformer horror hit from Bandai Namco. As the duo of Mono and Six, players will explore the route to the Signal Tower, uncovering the distorted and warped world around them as they make their way to the humming tower. It will release on February 10th, one day after the end of the festival.

Lust from Beyond is an erotic horror which draws inspiration from the works of H.R. Giger and H.P. Lovecraft. Succeeding 2018’s Lust for Darkness, this game is excess in all its dripping glory. Our hero Victor Holloway falls in line with a cult known as the Cult of Ecstasy, getting himself lost in the depravity and perversion of the group’s norms. Before long, the cult attempts to enter Lusst’ghaa, a world beyond our own which prides itself on being the Land of Ecstasy. Give yourself over to absolute pleasure on February 25th, and check out the expansions Prologue and Scarlet in the meantime.
