Stoneburner Releases Music Video For "No Light No Spark," Deluxe Remix EP Out on Bandcamp Friday

Steven Archer, one half of industrial mainstays Ego Likeness, has been on a creative tear as of late, particularly since the inception of his own Wolfcore Records label, under which fall many of his projects. One such imprint, the tribal-meets-industrial Stoneburner, has put out a mother of a release for today, the first Bandcamp Friday of 2021.

No Light No Spark is a deluxe remix EP, boasting reworkings of Stoneburner tracks such as “Are You There The Way I’m Here,” “Amnesialand,” and “Beauty is Terror,” with the cast of characters remixing these songs including Assemblage 23, Batavia, and Stabbing Westward (who themselves had their song “Dead and Gone” remixed by Stoneburner around this time last year!).

To promote the new EP, Stoneburner’s first in this calendar year, a music video for the title track has been released, and it is an unnerving yet captivating watch. In it, a torch-bearing Archer is in a wintry scene, lighting torches while the song plays. In a different scene on a mountain, he trades in the fiery torch for the handheld lights, creating some striking visuals against the dark, cold backdrop behind him.

Musically, the song sounds like the guitar-heavier tracks of Ego Likeness, with Archer’s vocals sounding similar to the cleans of Burton C. Bell. It’s surely a stompy, crunchy track, with plenty of weight and atmosphere to make for a full experience. If only we could be hearing this at the local goth/industrial club, with a light snow outside to boot.
