'Suspiria' Co-Writer and Famed Giallo Actress Daria Nicolodi Has Passed Away

Very sad news broke yesterday that beloved gaillo actress/writer, former partner of Dario Argento and mother of Asia Agentro, Daria Nicolodi, had passed away in Rome, Italy at the age of 70.

Asia Argento confirmed the tragic news in an Instagram post, writing (in Italian): "Rest in peace beloved mother. Now you can fly free with your great spirit and you won’t have to suffer anymore. I will try to go on for your beloved grandchildren and especially for you who would never want to see me so grieved. Even if without you I miss the ground under my feet, and I feel I have lost my only true point of reference. I am close to all those who have known and loved her. I will always be your Aria."

Born in Florence, Italy on June 19th, 1950, Nicolodi solidified herself as an integral part of the Italian giallo movement throughout the '70s and '80s, starring in several of Dario Argento's films such as Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebrae, Phenomena, and Opera.

She also co-wrote screenplay for Argento’s Suspiria, and would have starred in the film but suffered an injury prior to shooting. Nicolodi also lent her writing talents to Inferno and Luigi Cozzi’s The Black Cat.

The Italian actress/filmmaker also appeared in Mario Bava’s final film Shock, Michele Soavi’s 1991 film The Sect, which was produced by Dario Argento, and in 2007, she worked with Dario and Asia Argento on Mother of Tears.

Daria Nicolodi graced us with some of the most fantastic performances in Italian film history throughout her career, and the world of giallo films certainly wouldn't have been the same without her magnetic presence.

We here at CryptTeaze extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
