Syfy is treading hallowed horror ground for their upcoming television series, first ordering up a series based on Don Mancini's Child's Play franchise, and now, according to Deadline, the network has now given a "10-episode straight-to-series" order for a series based on George A. Romero's zombie classic Day of the Dead.
While the first film followed a small group of military officers and scientists dwelling in an underground bunker in a world overrun by zombies, Syfy's series appears to be taking a much different approach.
"Day of the Dead is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart."
Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, the series is being produced by Cartel Entertainment (who also produced Shudder's "Creepshow").
"Day of the Dead" will air on Syfy in 2021. Watch a trailer of Romero’s 1985 film below.
