System of a Down Release Hybrid Music Video for "Genocidal Humanoidz"

Back in November of last year, System of a Down closed the fifteen year gap since their last albums Hypnotize and Mezmerize, releasing a pair of singles to benefit their ancestral homeland of Armenia, especially the war-torn area known as Artsakh. “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” were a pair of excellent tracks, but at the time of release, only the former had a music video to speak of. Now, the band has released a music video for “Genocidal Humanoidz,” the more old-school SOAD-sounding of the two tracks. This comes after the recent trailer for Serj Tankian’s new documentary Truth to Power, which releases on video on demand next month.

The video was directed by Adam Mason and bassist Shavo Odadjian, and is a blend of live-action and animation, with animation handled by Deep Sky. The editing of the video fits the manic nature of the song, specifically in the chorus, as the camera focuses on singer Serj Tankian’s face, with flashing lights going off all around him. In the animated portion, a young man is running through a city falling apart, with an eyeless demon giving chase and trying to keep the young man from honoring the fallen in his decimated city.

Between the videos for both singles, as well as a two-hour livestream which took place earlier today, the band has raised over $250,000 USD for the Armenia Fund. Note that this total only includes donations collected through links in their YouTube videos. The band still has merch available from these two singles, all of the proceeds from which will also go to the Armenia Fund.
