Tactical FPS Hidden Gem 'Star Wars: Republic Commando' Is Now Available on PS4, PS5, and Switch

In simpler times, before the third trilogy in the Star Wars franchise, we had the event that was Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The year 2005 would be huge for the property, as not only did we get the ending of the contentious prequel trilogy, but we had a number of video games come out, including the all-time classic Star Wars Battlefront II. Among those is a diamond in the rough tactical shooter known as Republic Commando, with its ESRB description rating it Teen for Blood and Gore and Violence.

Blood and gore in a Star Wars game? What? I mean, it’s not a Mature rating, but still.

The game isn’t terribly hard to find these days, as it is on Steam for PC, but now, players looking to either experience it for the first or 100th time can do so on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 with a brand new port by Aspyr Media. An interesting point is that the game currently has no Xbox port, even though it was originally released for the OG Xbox as well as PC.

The events of Republic Commando take place during the Clone Wars, as players lead the Delta Squad of Boss, Scorch, Fixer, and Sev through events in the Star Wars Legends Extended Universe. The initial release netted a 78 on Metacritic, and the storyline involving Clone Force 99 is said to be continued in the upcoming Star Wars: The Bad Batch series.
