The wonder of the world is gone, I know for sure.
Today on WWE’s webseries The Bump, it was announced that Kane, one of the greatest characters in all of wrestling, would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame ahead of this year’s WrestleMania. The formal announcement was given to Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, by his former tag team partner and kayfabe brother (of destruction) The Undertaker. As Taker himself would say, “there is no WWE Hall of Fame without Kane,” and given his staying power and the many iterations we’ve seen of him over two and a half decades, it’s hard to disagree with The Deadman’s statement.
Kane debuted at Badd Blood in 1997, interfering in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. With such nicknames as “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” and “The Big Red Machine,” the 7-foot Kane held three world championships, two Intercontinental Championship reigns, and twelve total reigns as a tag team champion. He also holds the record for most Royal Rumble appearances (20) and cumulative eliminations (46 as of this year’s event).
He also starred as Jacob Goodnight in both See No Evil films, released in 2006 and 2014, respectively. Glenn Jacobs, the man behind the mask, is currently serving as mayor of Knox County, TN.
Jacobs will be joined in the class of 2021 by Molly Holly, Eric Bischoff, and The Great Khali, with more inductees possibly being announced. The 2020 class, due to last year’s event being cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, will also be inducted, consisting of John “Bradshaw” Layfield, Jushin “Thunder” Liger, “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, The Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki), and The nWo (Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman).
The induction ceremony will air on Peacock (US only) and the WWE Network (worldwide) on April 6th.
