The horror show is about to begin, as this past Wednesday, it was announced that Shudder has officially acquired the rights for The Boulet Brothers' Dragula: Search For The World's Next Drag Supermonster. All three previous seasons of the show will stream on Shudder, as well as the two-hour special Resurrection (review) and any future seasons.
Deadline first reported Shudder’s acquisition of the series.
On that note, casting has begun for season four, with the gag-worthy announcement that the grand prize this time will be $100,000, up from $25,000 in season three, and a far cry from the crowdfunded $10,000 grand prize for season one. Performers of all gender expressions and identities are explicitly encouraged to audition, so long as they exhibit the tenets of Dragula: Filth, Horror, and Glamour. Applications will be accepted until midnight on May 6th, 2021, and those can be submitted at www.bouletbrothersdragula.com.
No release date for season four has been announced at this time, but if the casting process has just begun, it would be a safe bet to say we might get the new season by Halloween if we're lucky (and assuming the era of Pandemia doesn't decide to waylay this nice thing too), or next year if we're not so lucky. Saint, the winner of Resurrection, has a guaranteed spot in season four, allowing for a second chance in a show first.
If you've never experienced Dragula, there's no time like the present, and while you're at it, check out my recaps and reviews of every episode thus far.
