The 'Mortal Kombat' Reboot Gets A Gory New Red Band Trailer - With Fatalities!

In two months, we will finally get the film reboot of Mortal Kombat, after over a decade of hype, rumor, and anticipation. As endearing as the 1995 film is, the PG-13 rating meant we got bupkis for Fatalities worth a damn, but this go-round is a different story. With SAW director James Wan producing this film directed by Simon McQuoid, the collective feeling of the Internet has been the side-eyes emoji.

Now, with the latest red-band trailer finally dropping, we know that not only will there be blood, but there will be gallons of the stuff. Within the first thirty seconds, we get this film’s take on how Jax (Mehcad Brooks) lost his arms, and it only gets more visceral from there. We get spearing, slashing, and more before the obligatory Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero showdown.

Following the image of the film’s updated MK Dragon logo, we see a montage of Fatalities, the most recognizable of which is Kano’s heart rip. After the finish, he looks at his handiwork and simply smiles, saying “you fuckin’ beauty,” and if I wasn’t already sold on this film, that moment would do it for me.

Mortal Kombat is due out in theaters on April 16th, with a simultaneous limited release on HBO Max for 30 days following the initial release. HBO Max subscribers will not pay extra to stream this film, or any others on the Warner Bros. Pictures slate this year.
