'The Mutilator 2' - Principal Photography Wraps on Sequel to Cult 1984 Slasher

After all these years, Buddy Cooper’s cult 1984 slasher The Mutilator (also known as Fall Break) is getting a sequel. We've learned today that principal photography has wrapped in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina on The Mutilator 2, and editing is well along the way. The fine cut of the film is expected this week!

Cooper returned to write and direct the upcoming slasher sequel, and tells us the film is expected to be completed in September.

Ruthie Martinez and Bill Hitchcock, who starred in The Mutilator, also return to appear in the sequel alongside Terry Kiser (Weekend at Bernie’s, Friday the 13th Part VII), Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Wrong Turn), Eva Hamilton (Death Kiss, The Swing of Things) and Cody Cameron (El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, Amazon's A Hollywood Story) to name a few of the cast of approximately fifty.

Noteworthy performances are also delivered by Chaney Morrow, Ryan James, Loren Swan, Peter Bussian, Marco Reese Maldonado, Bryden Di Gennaro, Gabriella Mead, Carl Grasso, Emily Bengtson, Mark Francis, Dan Grogan, Anna Clary, Eric Six, Carroll Herring, Jesse Contente, Lyon Dorafshar and Colson Dorafshar.

Alexander Taylor (Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street, Unknown Dimension: The Story Of Paranormal Activity) will be scoring the sequel.

"I’m so honored and excited to be a part of The Mutilator franchise," Taylor said in a statement. "One of the best parts of this is the fact that Buddy Cooper is back! It’s rare for a legacy film to have the original writer and director come back, so you know this is going to be special. Buddy and I already have some cool themes and wild ideas for the score."

The original Mutilator was made for the gore fans and did well on its opening and during its early life. Following its opening weekend, The Mutilator was ranked thirteenth on Weekly Variety’s chart of top grossing films and remained on the chart for six weeks. Unfortunately, once the film moved away from New York and Los Angeles it found difficulty getting bookings because it was unrated. When the film returned to the MPAA to seek an "R" rating, the gory parts (the good parts) had to be cut, and thus, the resulting R-rated version was drastically less interesting and financially unsuccessful.

It is currently available in its uncut and R-rated versions on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, and online at Amazon Prime and several other streaming sites.

The Mutilator will also be screened in 35mm, and completely uncut, this September during Exhumed Films' annual camping-themed horror event, Camp Blood VIII, at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater. Actors Matt Mitler, Ruth Martinez and Bill Hitchcock will be in attendance.
