The New 'Resident Evil' Film Has Its Subtitle - "Welcome to Raccoon City"

Today marks 25 years of Resident Evil, and over the weekend we learned some exciting news about Johannes Roberts’ new film adaptation, due out this September. During SXSW, Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey At Night) announced that the film will be named Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, set in the year 1998, and will cover events from the first two entries in the iconic survival horror franchise.

This reboot is also entirely unrelated to Paul W.S. Anderson’s six-strong series of films which starred Milla Jovovich. That said, if you’re a serious RE collector, there’s a 4K box set of the films that released around Black Friday.

Thus far, the cast includes:

Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine

Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield

Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker

Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy

Neal McDonogh as William Birkin

There is more Resident Evil coming in 2021 than you can shake a chainsaw at, including Resident Evil: Village and the Netflix animated series Infinite Darkness, so if you’ve been needing a fix of a series about biological weaponry and zombies, strap in.
