The Original 'SAW' Gets 4K Blu-Ray Release, Due Out Just Before 'Spiral' Hits Theaters

Upon its release in 2004, SAW took the horror world by storm, almost single-handedly defining the “torture porn” subgenre with mind games, gruesome traps, and that damn puppet Billy. For a stretch lasting until 2010, there was one new SAW film a year, and with the eighth film Jigsaw in 2017, the franchise has become one of the highest-grossing in horror history, closing in on $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Before the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of SAW comes out on May 14th, diehards will be sure to re-watch the first eight films, and with this latest and first-time-ever 4K release of the unrated first film, even the first shots of the iconic “shit room” will look better than ever. The package will also include a 1080p Blu-Ray and a digital copy.

Also included will be the documentary Game Changer: The Legacy of Saw, which will highlight the lasting impact of the franchise and how it all came together. The other special features include:

  • Saw: The Original Short Film

  • Hacking Away at Saw (behind-the-scenes featurette with the cast and crew)

  • Alternate Storyboard Sequence

  • Theatrical Trailer

Check out the trailer for the 4K release of SAW, due out on May 11th, below:
