'The Void' Director Steven Kostanski to Helm Syfy's "Day of the Dead" Series; Cast Revealed

Back in February, we learned that Syfy had issued a 10-episode order for a new series based on George A. Romero's zombie classic Day of the Dead, and today brings news (via Deadline) that The Void director Steven Kostanski will direct the first four episodes and executive produce!

Kostanski is also known for his work on the Astron-6 favorites Manborg and Father's Day, as well as recent hits Leprechaun Returns and Psycho Goreman.

While some horror fans didn't enjoy it (or didn't even bother giving it a chance), Kostanski has proven to us through his work on Leprechaun Returns that he knows how to handle classic horror properties with care and respect, which is no easy feat. We say Syfy's "Day of the Dead" series is in good hands.

We've also learned that Keenan Tracey ("Bates Motel"), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), newcomer Morgan Holmstrom and Kristy Dinsmore ("Vikings") have been set as series regulars. You'll find more character details over on Deadline.

"Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, 'Day of the Dead' is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart."

The series comes from Abbott Street Films and Cartel Entertainment ("Creepshow"). Production is currently underway in Vancouver.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this news in the comments below!
