In what would be his first-ever major live-action television series, legendary director Tim Burton is looking to bring everyone’s favorite spooky family is back to the small screen with a new "The Addams Family" series!
Deadline reports that "Burton is negotiating to executive produce and possibly direct all episodes of this new take on the franchise."
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the developers/executive producers of "Smallville," will be head writers on the MGM TV project and serve as showrunners as well as executive producers alongside Burton.
The site notes, "As of right now, the package has multiple buyers bidding for it, including Netflix, which sources say is at the top of the list of landing the project."
Although it's not yet confirmed, sources tell Deadline that series would be set in present times and focus on the perspective of Wednesday Addams and her outlook on the world in 2020.
Tim Burton seems like the perfect candidate to inject mysterious and spooky new life into "The Addams Family." We feel he did a bang-up job in adapting the classic '70s series "Dark Shadows" into the 2012 film starring Johnny Depp. Mix that with the dark themes and aesthetics found in his beloved films like Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, and we may have a real winner on our hands!
In other Addams Family news, MGM's sequel to last year's animated hit is slated to creep into theaters next October.
