Many around the world are currently under lockdown due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, leading filmmakers to get creative when it comes to getting their projects shot and produced.
This is especially true for one film making team from Australia. Melbourne is currently under stage 4 restrictions, which are some of the strictest in the world, but that hasn’t stopped David Black and Gerard Chierchia, who are making a feature film called Toxic Alien Zombie Babes from Outer Space. Instead of being locked in, they’ve reached out across the world.
The trailer for the sci-fi horror comedy film has just gone live this week, featuring light-hearted satires of the major events that have plagued 2020.
"It’s been a year of craziness, starting with bushfires that engulfed much of Australia, through to the pandemic, with so much else in between from murder hornets to 5G tower conspiracies. Gerardo and I decided that we just had to document it all in a fast paced sci-fi/ horror comedy feature film," said Black.
Chierchia added, “With the trailer … finally we can see some footage, arrived from all over the world. We work every day to put everything together and add special effects … our online chats are exploding, as we have contacts with every corner of the world. Lately we have been published in a local newspaper and it is a great satisfaction to see photos or videos of our work published."
He continues, "Besides me and David, there are people who put a lot of effort into their videos so I’m sure we can have something good quality as well as making something unique."
Toxic Alien Zombie Babes from Outer Space also stars "The King of B Grade Movies" Joel D. Wynkoop, as well as filmmaker Destiny Soria (Christmas Slasher) and French actress Julie Krebs.
Anyone around the world that wishes to be involved in the film can upload their own self-shot scene of their reaction to seeing a UFO. Five scenes will selected to go into the film and many of the others will be shown in the credits at the movies end.
Toxic Alien Zombie Babes from Outer Space should be landing some time in November this year. Distribution plans will be announced closer to the date.
The filmmakers state that they are planning to give this film away free to any theatres and TV stations willing to run it, and they add, "This has been a movie made by the people and for the people and should be made available to all that wish to see it."
