Four years after delivering frenetic zombie action and emotion with Train to Busan, which is easily one of the best zombie films of all time, Yeon Sang-ho is back with a sequel that looks to up the undead ante with more thrills and a very unique post-apocalyptic version of South Korea.
Late last night, Well Go USA released the official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula. The trailer gives us a taste of the nonstop undead chaos that we'll be subjected to when the film is released. From lawless humans to an ever growing zombie threat, Peninsula appears to take inspiration from films like Mad Max, Doomsday and George A. Romero's Land of the Dead, while retaining the emotion, mayhem and brutal imagery that made the first film so great.
The film's official synopsis reads:
"Four years after South Korea’s total decimation in Train to Busan, Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won), a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland, relives the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best—or worst—of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances."
Lee Jung-hyun and child actress Lee Re also star.
An official release date has yet to be announced, but Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula is expected to be released in the US and Canada later this year via Well Go USA.
Stay tuned for an official announcement.
