Trollfest are veterans of the Scandinavian folk metal scene, employing their own language of “trollspråk” since 2003. Fun as their original music is, my first exposure to the band was from an old friend playing their cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” for our friend group one day. Heavy as their iteration is, it’s the use of stringed folk instruments and percussion that make this one of the most fun covers I’ve ever heard. Add the zaniness of the miniature music video included, and well, see for yourself:
Now, the Norwegian outfit is releasing a new EP full of covers, entitled Happy Heroes. As a first look, the band have given us their take on a commercial smash, Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” The music video sees the band raising hell in a hospital, and if that isn’t a great representation of what the age of Pandemia has done to our poor healthcare workers, then I’m not sure what is.
In addition to “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” Happy Heroes will feature covers of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” and Aqua’s “Cartoon Girl,” as well as a new original song in the form of the title track. The EP releases on Napalm Records on March 19th.
Pre-save and/or pre-order the EP, including the limited clear blue vinyl, here.
