As testosterone-fueled as the music of Pantera is, seeing some of the most powerful women in heavy metal and hard rock take one of their songs is just… you love to see it.
Two Minutes to Late Night is back on their Bedroom Covers bullshit, as they’ve assembled a team of musicians to take on another all-time classic, this time Pantera’s groove-tastic “Mouth for War” off of the legendary Vulgar Display of Power. This latest cover sees Gina Gleason (Baroness), Reba Meyers (Code Orange), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Madi Watkins (Year of the Knife), and Ben Koller (Mutoid Man, Converge, et al) join host Gwarsenio Hall, with the idea for the cover coming from Gleason and Meyers.
The result is a banger of a cover, with Hall providing death growls beneath the powerhouse voice of Lzzy Hale for that extra gravelly oomph. Towards the end, there’s even a quick aside to “Domination,” in all of its rapid double-kick glory, before switching back to the hardcore-style breakdown that sends the song out.
In light of recent events in the state of Texas, the artists involved have decided to commit their shares of the proceeds from this cover and video to Dallas Hope Charities Transitional Living Center, which helps provide housing for homeless LGBTQ+ youth.
