It was announced last year that Katsuhiro Otomo's groundbreaking 1988 science fiction film Akira was being remastered for an upcoming 4K Ultra HD release later this year, and this week it's been announced that a bonus Blu-ray disc will be added to the package, bringing the disc count up from two to three (one 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and two regular Blu-rays)!
According to HypeBeast.com, "Fans of the film can expect a series of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes features from the film like sound clips by Geinoh Yamashirogumi or still images from the movie’s storyboards. Apart from these rare production cuts, the bonus disc will also include end credits from the film’s original 1988 release."
The film has been remastered in 4K from the 35mm original camera negative and will feature a Dolby TrueHD audio transfer. The release will also include a special booklet and slipcover.
Akira arrives on 4K Ultra HD on April 24th and will retail for $89. More info can be found over on the film's official website.
In the film, "A secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psychic psychopath that only two teenagers and a group of psychics can stop."
