In an illuminating article by GQ, Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen opened up about different parts of his life. For horror fans, one of the exciting questions asked was if a collaboration with director David Cronenberg, who he is good friends with, is in the works.
Mortensen replies, “It's something he wrote a long time ago, and he never got it made. Now he's refined it, and he wants to shoot it. Hopefully, it'll be this summer we'll be filming. I would say, without giving the story away, he's going maybe a little bit back to his origins.” After being asked if it’s more of a body-horror type of film he adds, “Yeah, it's very interesting. It's almost like a strange film noir story. It's disturbing and it's good, I think.”
Mortensen and Cronenberg have worked on a number of projects together, including A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, A Dangerous Method, and Mortensen’s new film (and directorial debut) Falling, which just released in the US over the weekend.
