'Wrong Turn' Reboot Receives "R" Rating for "Strong Bloody Violence" and "Grisly Images"

Last year, we learned that a Wrong Turn reboot was in the works from The Domestics director Mike P. Nelson, and while production has been wrapped for quite some time, the film is finally inching closer to release and has now officially earned an "R" rating from the MPA.

This shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans of the murderous, inbred redneck franchise, as all previous entries have been rather brutal.

Reportedly titled Wrong Turn: The Foundation, the MPA has slapped the film with a hard "R" rating for "strong bloody violence, grisly images and pervasive language."

The seventh entry in the Wrong Turn franchise follows a group of friends who decide to take a trip to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia to spend a couple days hiking the Appalachian Trail. They are confronted by "The Foundation," a community of people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years... of course, they don't take to kindly to strangers.

Charlotte Vega (American Assassin), Matthew Modine ("Stranger Things"), Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night), Bill Sage ("Hap and Leonard"), Emma Dumont ("The Gifted"), Valerie Jane Parker ("Greenleaf"), Chaney Morrow (Haunt) and David Hutchinson ("American Horror Story") star.

Dylan McTee, Adrian Favela, Adain Bradley, Jeremy Ambler, Cory Scott Allen, Gary Ray Stearns, Rhyan Elizabeth Hanavan, Vardaan Arora, Mark Mench, Joshua Stephen Campbell, Jennie Malone, Brian James Fitzpatrick and Mark Angel round out the cast.

Alan B. McElroy (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Spawn), who wrote the original film, returned to write this entry, which will be distributed by Saban Films.

Even though many horror fans, myself included, are undoubtedly exhausted with the long-running franchise at this point, there's no denying this entry has one hell of a solid cast and crew behind it. I'm remaining rather optimistic. Expect to hear release details soon!
