XYZ Films to Unleash 'Legions' of Demons with Argentinian Horror Film

We first heard about Fabian Forte's Legions way back in 2020, and Deadline now reports that XYZ Films has acquired North American rights to the Argentinian horror film.

XYZ Films is looking to unleash the film in late 2022.

In Legions, a powerful sorcerer, Antonio, is locked away in an asylum, and wastes away in his imprisonment as evil, demonic forces take control of Argentina. If Antonio can escape the psychiatric hospital, and find his daughter, Helena, their combined strength could save Argentina, but Helena has forgotten her powers. Antonio must reteach her the ways of magic and be humanity’s last hope against this ancient evil.

Germán De Silva (Wild Tales), Lorena Vega (Tigre) and Ezequiel Rodriguez (Soy Luna) star. Javier Diaz is producing.

"Legions is a supernatural story that mixes different narrative lines and genres. The story is fantastic, and contains irony, humor and obviously the elements of the horror genre," Forte previously stated of the film. "These ingredients, plus strong and human characters, evil and imaginary beings (or perhaps not), the dizzying pace and the climates of tension create a product designed for a young audience, where adrenaline and humor are the support to tell a mystical and critical history of the modern world and the lack of beliefs."

James Emanuel Shapiro, XYZ's EVP, US Distribution, said: "I love Legions! It is filled with amazing practical effects and loads of gore! It’s also empowered by Argentina’s history and culture and is a testament to the greatness of Latin American horror. I can’t wait for audiences to see Fabian’s latest epic."

Legions premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal this past weekend, and won best script at this year's Fantaspoa.

You can check out the film's previously released trailer below, which carries major Evil Dead vibes and plenty of practical creature effects that'll certainly please fans of old school horror films.
